MindWander is a journaling app for capturing thoughts on a walk. It is designed to work fully on your iPhone — your voice and your words do not leave your device.
What we do not collect
We do not collect, transmit, store, or have access to any of the following:
- Your voice recordings
- Your transcripts
- Your generated artifacts (to-do lists, journal entries, etc.)
- Your email address, name, phone number, or any other contact information
- Your location
- Your device identifiers
- Analytics or usage data of any kind
Where your data lives
- Your audio recordings are saved in MindWander’s Documents directory on your iPhone. They never leave your device.
- Your transcripts and artifacts are saved in SwiftData on your iPhone.
- If you have iCloud enabled, your transcripts and artifacts sync to your own private iCloud container (a “CloudKit private database”). This sync is encrypted by Apple and is between your own devices only. We have no access to your iCloud data.
- To delete your data: in MindWander, swipe-delete any artifact, or in iOS Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → Manage Account Storage → MindWander, tap “Delete Data” to clear the entire CloudKit container.
How transcription works
MindWander uses Apple’s on-device speech recognition (SFSpeechRecognizer with
requiresOnDeviceRecognition = true). Your audio is transcribed locally on your iPhone. The audio is not sent to Apple servers, to us, or to any third party.How AI shaping works
MindWander uses Apple Intelligence (FoundationModels) to convert your spoken transcript into the format you chose — a to-do list, a Substack draft, a journal entry, etc. The model runs locally on your iPhone, on devices that support Apple Intelligence (iPhone 15 Pro or later). The shaped output may not always be perfectly accurate; the transcript is preserved as the source of truth. We have no access to your transcripts or to the shaped output.
Purchases
MindWander offers one-time in-app purchases (lifetime access). Purchases are handled entirely by Apple’s StoreKit. We do not see your payment information, your Apple ID, or your billing address. Apple processes the purchase and tells our app only “purchase succeeded” or “purchase failed.”
Privacy Manifest
MindWander ships a privacy manifest (
PrivacyInfo.xcprivacy) declaring:- Tracking: false (we do not track you)

CA92.1) — used only to store your in-app preferences (selected default schema, recording length cap, etc.) on your own device.
Children
MindWander is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any data from anyone (including children).
Changes
If this policy ever changes, the “Last updated” date above will change and the new policy will be available at this URL.
